Anyone who dreams of making it big knows that the key to success is the "big break" -- that one job, one role, or one opportunity that can change everything. On this episode of True Life, we're following an up-and-coming rock band and a daytime TV starlet who are getting that shot.
Marty Larson-Xu, Oliver Brown and Evan Seroffsky are childhood friends who together with French import Kevin Sciou make up The Rock-n-Roll Soldiers, a high-energy rock band from Eugene, Oregon. Out of their local music scene, the band has a growing fan base and an indie hit with their single, "Funny Little Feeling." Atlantic Records is releasing the Soldiers' debut album, So Many Musicians to Kill, to the masses in 2006 - and just this last summer, the band was prominently featured in a national TV commercial. We've been on the road with them to see how things change when a small local band starts getting national attention.
Alexandra Chando, an 18-year-old actress from Pennsylvania, may have her ticket to stardom in the form of a new recurring role on As The World Turns. This long-running soap has launched the careers of such superstars as Meg Ryan and Julianne Moore, and Alexandra could be a next generation "It Girl". Our cameras have been with Alexandra since she was cast, documenting her earliest days on the set. We'll see what it's like as Alexandra attempts to go from unknown actress to mainstream star.
